WHAT SHE NEEDS..... IS MORE HELP
At the Michigan Music Festival last August, four members of the What She Wants collective met with other women across the country who are involved with feminist/lesbian/radical publications. We discovered all of us have the same problems. Alternative newspapers are founded and fueled by dedicated women who are primarily interestd in writing and layout work. Women with financial ability or professional office skills never seem to get involved in journalism. Consequently, money, distribution, advertising, and other such "uncreative" concerns are chronically neglected.
The What She Wants collective would like to dispel the illusion that a woman must be very "creative" in order to become involved with this newspaper. We need help in all areas, especially now that one of our most hardworking members has had

.....Sometime in 1970, while I was in Vietnam, I went to a whorehouse in the city of Qui Nhon. Rather than picking my own girl (the usual procedure), I was given an attractive young girl who couldn't have been more than 12 or 13. She was inexperienced, if not a virgin altogether, and wound up tight as a drum. I tried making love in a natural way, but she refused to engage actively or passively In any type of foreplay. There was no way I could get her to loosen-up and I couldn't get it hard. I finally gave up and told her to take the money and forget about it. She refused to let me leave the room without coming. She was afraid I would complain to the management. I insisted that I understood the problem and that she shouldn't worry but just take the money cause I liked her. This didn't sink in and finally I became enraged that she couldn't accept the fact that I was kind and sensitive person trying to do her a favor. As a result, I banged her so savagely, I thought she was going to split open...and I didn't care. This male disease we call "Macho" is not so much some kind of satanic, alchemical transformation of snips, snails and puppy-dog tails into a delight in cruelty, as much as it's a matter of not having tenderer emotions reciprocated when being looked upon as just another cock. I don't have to look any further for Mr. Goodbar, cause now I know where to find him.

to leave. We are down to six women who must put in at least 150 hours on production alone, and nearly twice that on other "mundane" matters. We should be increasing our circulation, improving the quantity and quality of advertising, and attending community events as reporters. Instead, we spend almost all of our energy just getting the paper printed each month. It always seems we have no time "extras". We will need new members of the collective. If you want to assume part of group responsibility for the survival of this newspaper in terms of finances, politics, and the physical labor of putting it out each month; if you can commit yourself to five or six meetings a month (mailing, personal, planning, business, editorial, production), please come and

work with us for a while and get to know us. We would be glad of the new input and the help.
If you want just to write for us, please do so. Collective members have very little time left to report on the work and the activities of Cleveland women in as much depth and detail as we would like. We always welcome good writing about women by women. If you want to come only for production and do layout work, we desperately need help. We could also use another terrific typist.
There is nothing special about the women of What She Wants collective except that we want very much to put out a women's newspaper. None of us is an expert at anything, and we would like other nonexperts to join us so Cleveland can continue to have a good feminist press.
